The Psychological Evaluation Process
I have over 14 years of experience with psychosocial assessments in a variety of settings. As a first-generation West Indian, queer womxn and licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) born to parents who immigrated during childhood to the states, immigration evaluations hold a special place within me. What this means for you is that I’ll utilize specialized skills, my lived experience, and deeply impassioned drive to provide professional comprehensive evaluations that are rooted in social justice, are trauma-informed, evidence-based, anti-oppressive, confidential, and uniquely tailored to you and your immigration case.
I provide compelling and highly effective evaluations for a wide range of immigration cases including petitions for extreme hardship waivers, domestic violence (VAWA), U Visas, and asylum cases. In support of your immigration journey, expedited reports, court appearances as an expert witness, sliding scale and payment plan options are available.
The psychological evaluation process involves three parts: the initial consultation, clinical interview, and psychological report:
-
We’ll begin the evaluation process with a freeconsultation call. During the call I’ll request details about you and your immigration case so that I can ensure that my support and services align with yours/your immigration case’s needs.
-
We’ll follow up the consultation with a scheduled clinical interview that may take place virtually or in person. The clinical interview commonly occurs over two or three separate appointments. You can think of the interview as an expansive conversation with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that typically last 3-4 hours. During our time together we will discuss important details and periods of your life, particularly moments where you may have experienced hardship, challenges, stress, or trauma. I’ll also ask you to complete questionnaires that are designed to focus and provide more information about how you’re doing as well as the psychological and emotional impact of your life experiences. Throughout the process, I’ll have conversations and collaborate with your immigration attorney or legal professional to gather additional information about your immigration case.
-
I’ll integrate information gathered from our time together during the clinical interview, collaborations with your legal representative, and completed psychosocial questionnaires into a compelling and comprehensive, evidence-based report. A professionally prepared report offers the court system insight into your life and the way your life experiences have shaped you; the report helps to convey your story in a ways that would potentially be otherwise be unknown.
